Åkebakke Kindergarten

Åkebakken Kindergarten is a new Kindergarten commisioned by Statsbygg in relation with the development of the new campus for the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Ås, Norway. Statsbygg is the Norwegian government’s building commissioner, property manager and developer. The original design of the building was done by ØKAW Arkitekter MNAL AS, our role has been the detailing and execution of the project.

The kindergarten has been designed with three children departments and their associated outdoor areas. These departments are laid out alongside an area for the employees, as four building volumes around a lounge for common use. The kindergarten has one floor and flat roof, articulates around simple and small building volumes, and in no way competes with the scale of the existing houses around. The facades are cladded with standard wooden paneling. Outdoor areas are planned for diverse thematic activities for children, as well as for vegetation, and it offers a space for families and children to play and stay even after the kindergarten opening hours.
